Backup Lights Not Working 200

Help. The backup lights on my 1991 240 sedan are not working. I adjusted the switch so that it lined up properly. After the first adjustment, the backup lights came on once, but would only start in park. It would not start in neutral so I decided to adjust further to have everything operating properly. Now, no matter how I adjust the switch, the backup lights will not come on. Could I have ruined the switch and need to replace it?? Thanks.

Doubt you've ruined the switch, but time and use may have done a number on it. See here for a possible fix: http://cleanflametrap.com/neutsw.html

This looks like it may solve my problem. I will give it a try later today. I really appreciate such detail. Will let you know how it goes.

If there is a problem with the left side circuit board contacts etc. Both bulbs will not work and give the symptom of a bad switch. On the sedan models not sure about the wagons.

Yes, sedan (it is a sedan) tail light harness connector is a common reason for backup light funkiness. The left side daisy-chains to the right, so check where the two black wires go in the L-shaped circuit board connector.
