Difficulty Removing Distributor Cap:1993 Volvo 940 900

If anyone could advise the best way of removing the distributor cap on a Volvo 1993 940, I would greatly appreciate it. There is VERY little clearance between the three fastening screws that hold down the distributor cap and the firewall. I am having difficulty getting to the screws with either a screw driver, right angle screw driver or a right angle rachet/socket.

Many thanks,

OnlyVolvo

the 3 bolts are 'captured' so they don't fall out. I usually find that loosening each one a bit will allow some wiggle room with the cap, and you can then undo the bolts with your fingers.

I had to use three different wrenches to get mine off. (Maybe three wrenches and a screwdriver?)

It gets MUCH easier after you do it a couple of times.

An 8 mm open-end or ratcheting box wrench is your friend. Clumsy the first time, much easier with practice.

Hi,
They are a little tough. The bolts are hex head so a wrench is probably the best way. I used a ratcheting-box end wrench and it was pretty easy. A regular box-end wrench would work fine, but it would take a little longer.
Good luck!
