Crankshaft, pistons, and cam for 2.1 200 1982

Rebuilder tells me he can't get parts (including crank kit, pistons, and camshaft) for my 1982 Volvo GL wagon. I find that hard to believe. Does someone here have a source they are willing to share for parts to buy?

Joseph

With that kind of extreme damage I would get another engine to rebuild or take the opportunity to install a later engine.

In either case my experience of rebuilding to 2.3 liters 12 years ago was a wonderful increase in power.

Have to agree with that...What kind of damage required you to get a crank?

Been there and had a new/used engine put in. Probably faster and cheaper than a rebuild unless you are going for a modified higher horsepower motor.

Topeka, Kansas. But I am willing to order from any source, so I didn't think location was important.

You can still get cams, bearings, and rings from places like IPD and FCP Groton. I had a heck of time finding Mahle pistons anymore, apparently they're no longer made. I had to find someone with NOS. I haven't replaced a crank, because like others have said, they hardly wear out,

I use a mail order company that has an office base nearby and a warehouse in a nearby state. I usually get my parts by the next day UPS. I took a look at their catalog and found all but the camshaft in a matter of minutes. Unless you are looking for a different performance curve it's hard to imagine why you'd need to change your cam (broken? bent?) as they seem to last forever in the OHC red block. However, cams are available from IPD, ISKY and others. I don't think your guy is trying too hard. The company I use doesn't advertise on the BB but I'm sure those that do would have the parts you need. -- Dave

Would you mind sharing contact information to your source. I seem to be able to find everything except crankshaft. P.S. for those of you who don't believe a 240 can have a bad crank, cam, and pistons, try letting a wife drive it from K.C. to Topeka without oil.

The outfit I often deal with is europartsdirect. I didn't even consider that when you wrote crankshaft--you meant crankshaft--and not a bearing "kit". I have no idea what a new crankshaft would cost but I have a hunch you could fly to NY with temporary plates/insurance and buy an '88 244 - soon to be scrapped - that I know of, drive it home and make the engine swap before you'd go through half the budget of the rebuild you are proposing. I'm sure you could find a lot more deals closer to home. -- Dave
