Blower motor slight prob 200 1990

So the blower motor stays on the 1 setting even when turned off. On off, the 0 setting, and the 1 setting are the same. Then, the 2,3,4 setting work as should, but you can never fully turn it off. why would this be?

Blower motor slight prob 200 1990

1990 is the last year for the capillary tube thermostatic control for the AC. The snowflake switch starts in 91 with the upgraded plumbing. On the side of the thermostat, behind the console face, there is an auxiliary micro switch. This switch is activated by a mechanical lever that comes out of the thermostat housing. The internal part in the thermostat itself that moves the lever wears and the lever that activates the micro switch can no longer "reach" to depress the button on the micro switch. Take your center dash console away from the dash and remove the thermostat assembly. To do this, pull off the knob. The faceplate over the shaft snaps into the switch insert. Pull it out with a pick and you'll see the hex nut that holds the thermostat in place. With the thermostat out from behind the console you will see the micro switch on the side. With care you can bend the little lever a bit so that turning the knob all the way left activates the switch again. The switch is normally closed. When the lever hits the plunger it opens, shutting off the fan.

Or, as I found on our 89 wagon, the Microswitch is broken.

Yep, missed that Art. The cracked micro switch housing is sure common(TM if you do it in one word!).

You mean you didn't get those legs from playing dodge ball? 100 miles. That's how far we walked to school, right? In six feet of snow. If only we'd had Volvos. With broken Microswitches (TM).

                TM 200 1990

My 100 mile walk to school was only 2 miles but no hills -- always wondered how Valley Stream got its name-lots of streams but no hills in sight-therefore no valley -- when Dad brought home my next "college fund" project four months before graduating HS-a $200 nine year old '56 Jaguar coupe. Got it cleaned up to sell and when ready he told me I could keep it and use it for college but would have to wait till after graduation to register it. Clever me used the arguement that all the time saved by driving to school would allow me more time for chores/study. Relentless "negotiations" resulted in having the coolest car in school (my opinion--competition was teacher driven Porsche 356 and TR4 and student driven Fiat 1100 roadster, AH 3000, Stingray and a Mustang--and I guess the opinion of the crowd of seniors who'd gather around and in it-door locks not working-while I was in the only senior group to have a last period class).
I didn't have to worry about no stinkin' TM switches or any other high falutin' gadgets--the turn signal switch was a spring loaded twist lever--click,click,click,click,click and it would return to center--set it too early? give it another twist. -- Dave

I'm not sure if the 90's have a "snow flake" switch or the rotary dial but the switch or dial must be completely off or the fan will run on low setting even if the fan is turned off. Keeps the evaporator from freezing up.

you can turn the switch off if you carefully position the rotory switch between
0 and 1. I found this one afternoon after disconnecting the A/C. Give it a try
