Front springs - do they weaken? 200 1990

Front end feels a bit loose. Since I will be replacing the worn strut mounts soon, this would be a good time to replace the springs also if needed. I replaced the rear springs several years back and it fixed the sag in the back.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Mark

I would concur with most of the other comments.

In general; springs do not "wear out",unless they have been subjected to overloading.

If you want to spend money on your front end, then go with fresh tie rod ends, bushings, etc,or new struts.

Hello,

The springs are one of the very last thing to replace. Like the others said, check the common wear items first.

Good luck!!!

I agree with Tony, something else is worn in front. There are plenty of things, mainly bushings, to wear in the suspension to give looseness.

If you are asking if 'in general' do Volvo 200's have front springs that get tired, I'd say the answer is No.
It's not like Early Mopars and Camaro's where rear springs were known for sagging.

Not sure ...but I would think that the added weight of the motor would actually add to compressing a spring somewhat over time. Also ..if the front feels loose, I doubt if it is the springs ..rather bushings; ball joints ..other wear items.

That said ..IF there is still good spring action and the front is level from side to side (which I think is a reason folks usually replace springs) ..then I would not worry about it.

Another thing ..if you replaced the rear springs and it raised the back ...you might now have what IPD sells this whole set of springs to attain ...a more aggressive stance. That might be quite appealing.

That is what I am looking to do for my 92 245 in the future.

Is yours a wagon as well?

Same principle applies ..pretty sure. The main criteria is that you are level - side to side ..unless they are obviously collapsed.

I wish you well.
