No time to fix it so had it towed to a shop. So that I don't get ripped off, maybe you can name some possible causes.

The car starts up just fine but will die if I take my foot off the gas. Even with foot on gas, it still feels like its gonna die so have to kind of pump the pedal. What do you think it might be? Vacuum leak? Fuel pump? TIA.

Next trips to junk yard pull a couple AMMs to hand as spares.

Turned out o be the mass air flow sensor. Not a cheap fix.

$25 for a questionable part with 200k miles on it that will leave you stranded again.

You made the right call.

My guess would also be the AMM. If indeed this is true, see the previous posts on blocking the heat tube from the exhaust to the air filter box.

Unfortunately it was undrivable so had to call AAA. That was the first time ever my trusty 240 left me stranded.

Thanks all for the responses. I will report back back my wrench finds.

With the info you've provided there are many possibilities. Can you drive down the road? Is it running rich/lean? What does the exhaust smell/look like? Have any parts recently been serviced? Any OBD codes?

I would start with the basics; clean the throttle body and Idle Air Controller. Check for proper function of the Throttle Position Sensor. Check the function of the coolant temp sensor.

Sounds fuel related to me...

The first step would be to disconnect the AMM and try running the engine. If the engine runs better, limp home with the AMM disconnected, knowing that that is the problem.

Yes, exactly. This is the classic AMM failure in an LH 2.4.

Hi,

Could very well be the fuel pressure regulator-especially if front vac line coming from it has strong gasoline smell.
