Air box t-stat test? 200

Is there a way to test the T-stat inside the airbox? I was going to just try to eliminate the whole flapper and plug it but I thought before I do that I should test it first.

Is it a bad idea to just remove the preheat hose and close off the flapper? I live in a state with no testing required but it does get cold in winter sometimes....If I remove it will it affect the way the car runs in cold weather?

Thx..

you can use a hair dryer directly on the thermostat to see if it closes. Many of us eliminate the whole Shebang. You will notice ZERO difference.

And taking the Hose and bracket off the exhaust manifold cleans up that area.

So do you remove the t-stat thing as well or just the flapper? I assume I should plug the hole since there is an inlet that feeds it otherwise?

You also remove the tin around the exo manifold too? Or can I opt to leave that in place with no due harm?

I took off the manifold tin and the entire tin hose to teh Filter box. I left the flapper open. The flapper is on the dirty air side of the filter so my thinking was. 'The flapper is low enough in the engine compartment not to suck in Hot Engine air. Just more air coming in.'

Sure leave the Tin on the manifold if you want.
the key thing to prevent your AMM from getting cooked is to just separate that long Tin hose from the filter box.
