I have a 94' 740 with 283,xxx miles. It will shift into over drive but it takes a very long time. Once it shift into over drive the car works fine. It's all most like when it's cold thats when it will not do it. Could there be a hose that's gummed up or maybe the trams needs to be flushed. What ever it is I don't want to just throw money at it. Any help would be awesome.

I concur with Chris, I also experienced the above od problem, replaced my od soleniod and alls well again.

I recall my mother-in-law's 740 did that same thing - didn't want to go into O/D when cold, then as the car warmed up it started working. In this case it turned out to be a bad O/D solenoid.

If you NEVER have a need to lock out the O/D, there's a mod you can do to the solenoid to make it permanently enable O/D.
