My blower is only running on high. FAQ indicates that the resister pack is the ususal culprit, and that it is in the air plenum. Can someone please elaborate on where exactly that is? Is this a major overhaul?

Thanks for the pictorial view, Art. I remember now seeing it on the 88 240 on which I replaced the blower motor, years ago. I guess if I am going in to replace the resistor, i will be replacing the motor while I am in there. Never done a 940 one, though.
You suggest it may not be the resistor; can you suggest what else it may be?
I am heading out on a trip tomorrow for a week, 14 hours driving in freezing temperatures, I guess the blower will be on high the entire trip. Any chance the blower motor will be destroed with no resistor pack? What exactly is the resistor intended to do?

Whoops, pulled the trigger too soon. Without the dropdown model/year selection, I made it for you and did it erroneously.

In the 240 case, a blower motor with gummed up bushings will usually turn somewhat on full power (no resistor) but lock up in anything but the high setting, leaving the resistor to do nothing but cook. So, the resistor isn't the cause, but a collateral victim, depending on how long between problem and intervention.

Sorry, I don't have a clue about the 940. Suggest the 7/9 FAQ, if you haven't already been there.

No problem Art. Will the high setting continue to work, or will it too stop? Or am I looking at a potential fire if I continue to use it?

The blower will not explode or burn up; it will continue to operate, albeit on "high". The resistor pack is easily changed by removing the passenger kickpanel beneath the glovebox. The pack is screwed into the air plenum just inboard of the blower motor. About a fifteen minute replacement.
