Cruise Control not working after replacing shifter 900 1993

I replaced the whole shifter assembly in mh '93 940 a while back. The only one I could find with a decent knob was from a '94 940 which had a different wiring harness. So I took it apart and used the electrical parts from the '93 and knob from the '94.

After installing it, I find that the cruise control does not work. It is not the fuse because that also controls the overdrive, which is working.

I'm guessing that one of the connections is not good, or I bumped something while putting it back together. Before I take it apart, anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks.

Jeff

Cruise Control not working after replacing shifter 900 1993

The cruise control was designed to operate only if the car is in gear, and is connected to the start inhibitor switch for this. The start inhibitor switch must be open for the cruise control to work. Your car is probably wired to start without being in Park or Neutral, you'll have to fix that.

You should find pink and blue wires connecting to the start inhibitor switch in the shift mechanism.

Connector D, which is near the brake light switch under the dashboard, has a pink jumper wire. This pink jumper wire has to be cut for the cruise control to work in cars which have been converted to manual transmission. See the image below. Post back if you have wiring questions.

      Good suggestions John.

I made sure I rebuilt the start inhibitor switch, it was bypassed in the ``new'' shifter so I used parts from the ``old'' one. I just verified that it works (I can only start in P and N) and physically checked all the connections.

Next garage session I'll start debugging the cruise control wiring and brake pedal disengage switch. This could be one of those co-incidences.

We had a good session today, I was able to solder on an O/D switch w/o melting it. The last time I used my 40W iron with disastrous results. This time I used the 25W iron and a hemostat. I also re-installed the arm wrest cubby latch, replaced the driver's door seal (no more snowing in in the car!) and installed a tray above the heater controls that I pulled of the '94 donor car.

      Thanks.

      Jeff
