hello i recently purchased a 1991 volvo 940 turbo base model and my heater core is leaking, stop leak didnt work so im wondering if anyone knows the procedure to replacing it, if you have any links or info i would greatly appreciate it. i have read the replacement is different on the base model compared to the se model.

i am also interested in know what the average life span of this car is mileage wise.

The longest lived I know of went over 1,000,000 miles with no major rebuilds, maintained by VolvoGeorge.

Hope you're well. Please see this site's FAQs - drop-down men, at the very top of the page - which provide much good advice on preventive maintenance and on the things to be done, on a newly-purchased car, if you do not have maintenance records.

Well cared-for - with regular oil changes, transmission flushes, etc. - 940s are capable of 400,000 miles, or more.

A heater core replacement is not a trivial job. Please see the FAQs and post specific questions.

i have actually read the entire article in the a couple times, my only question is whether or not that is specifically for the base model because all the pics are different and in some places i was reading the base only takes 2 to 5 hours but se can take 20+

By the way, from what I hear 4-5 hours is way too light for this job. More like an entire day.

That article is for the base model with manual climate control and air conditioning, no ACC or ECC. The difference relates to more air controls, sensors, and the control unit.
