When to replace O2 sensor 200 1988

Looking at all my in stock 240 parts, I found an O2 sensor (Bosch that we will cut off the connector and splice in). I don't think we have put an O2 sensor in my son's '88 240. We haven't kept track very well about maintenance that we've done, I have lots of receipts but don't know which car the parts went in! Dumb!
So is there a way to tell if an O2 sensor looks old? Any tell-tale drivability signs? Thanks
