Collapsible Steering Column Pins 120-130

Picked up a 68 column and the pins are missing. Can anyone tell me if the ones for the 140s will work? Anyone have a set?

Paul

I went through the exact same exercise. I ended up modifying some metric bolts that had a diameter (on the unthreaded portion) very close to that of the stock pins. See below.

The pins with the bushings are now $42 each. More than I paid for the rest of the steering column.

Are you happy with your solution?

Paul

I've put a couple hundred miles on it without issue. Those pins are essentially just a shaft with threads on one end and a taper on the other. A bolt is a pretty good facsimile of that. The metric bolts ended up being a very close match to the pin diameter (within a couple thou, I think). I just had to find bolts that had enough unthreaded length to go through the busing and allow for the taper, as well as enough threaded length to go through the column, a washer, and locknut.

Sorry to tag onto this thread but I'm having a problem with these bushings on a 67 122s that's been retrofitted with one of these columns. It appears the column has been collapsed at some point as I can move it in and out, and can't get the bushings fully engaged as seen in the picture. I'm not familiar with how these columns work, is there a way to reset it or something? Thanks!

There is a U-shaped clamp and a rubber bushing where the steering column attaches to the bottom of the dash. Loosen the bolts on the clamp and you should be able to pull the column back so the pins engage fully. Tighten the clamp again firmly, and be sure you can't push the column forward again with normal effort.

Phil,
Thanks for the reply, the bracket is tight and the wheel still moves in and out fairly easily so I'm guessing the bushing is missing or damaged. Looks like it's time to climb under the dash and do some investigating!
