fuel hose source? 200

The tank on my 1990 245 has started to leak and I will be replacing it soon. I would like to replace the 2 rubber hoses that go from the sending unit along with the small intank one at the same time and wonder if anyone has a good source for them.

I'm having some issues getting the right sending unit fuel hose from Tasca. The shorter larger diameter hose that goes from the sending unit to the fuel pump is supposedly 9179420. I double checked this with the parts counter at Tasca. They keep sending me the longer smaller diameter hose that goes to the return line. I think they may have messed things up at Volvo when they went from the older part number which I think is 1266500. Does anyone know what part number is right?

Update: It looks like the correct part number is 1312257.

      fuel hose source? 200

OK I know this thread is old . . . but I just had a fuel hose go bad last night--and thought I would post a couple of observations.

First, the car is my '91 245 LH3.1 DD. I smelled gasoline when I got home last night and pretty much knew what it was. I pulled the old hose off this AM (in the rain) and found that it had delaminated and split near the chassis clamp above the rear axle. FWIW, the hose was the original, marked with PN 1312257, inner diameter is 12mm, and length is 36 inches.

I needed the car to pull a trailer this PM, so that meant finding the right hose locally ASAP. Fortunately, I found CRP (Continental) 12mm fuel line (CRP # N203741) at the local BAP-GEON. Store owner said it's a regularly stocked item, has a working pressure of > 100PSI, and is supposed to be 30R7 compliant.

The CRP hose went on "just right" and I was able to reuse the original clamps, no leaks.

All that said, I may order 3 ft of the Volvo hose (1312257) . . . part "just in case," and part because I have another old 240 with the original hose still in place.

Almost would have been an enjoyable job if not for the rain . . .

      Hope this helps!

      Steve A-

Yes old thread. Back in 2011 I pro actively changed all the rubber hoses and intank pumps(2 Delphi and 1 AC) on my 2 240's. I ended up buying(except intank hose) them from Tasca online. So far so good.

Thanks for the update. I just thought I should post a couple of observations from my latest work on the car. Wanted to confirm the original Volvo hose's PN and length. I also thought that the CRP hose PN might be helpful in case somebody else has an immediate need for a replacement as I did.

          All the best,

          Steve A-

One additional note--my local Volvo parts department had a 1m length of 1312257 hose on hand, so I got it "just in case." It is stamped with the following:

            "VOLVO NBR-CR 1312257 Gasoline 0.05MPa 011.5 DNK9B 18.11.2014 Italy"

I'm assuming the 011.5 is the ID (11.5mm). Not sure about the 0.05MPa (mega-pascals)--that's less than 8 psi. Maybe a typo? I would like to think the hose is good to about 75 psi . . . .

The big hose has a lot of stories attached to it of varying dissatisfaction with alternate sources (i.e. 7/16, 1/2) with some concrete first hand experience reported by TB user smokeyfan1000 who recommends getting the genuine (12mm) article from Volvo. I'd try to verify the p/n I've listed on my tank pump page, but TB search is a hit or miss affair this morning.

Your '90 has the neoprene (not hard line) return hose 5/16" 30R7. Inside the tank you should use 30R10 submersible.

      Art,

I took a look at the TB post plus your website and think I have it. Does this sound right?

1.) Buy the genuine Volvo hose for the tank to pump. Is the PN 9179420? That's what the post listed but one guy said he ordered that number and it wasn't right.

2.) My 1990 uses a short piece of regular fuel line for the return that connects to a green painted steel line. Should I buy 5/16" ID 30R9 for this line?

3.) Need 5/16" ID 30R10 for the short intank hose.

        Similar but different 200

        (1) I noticed that late comment about the 7mm line being received on a part number that looked similar to, but possibly a typo from the superseding number in Tasca's catalog. The only problem I have with that is I don't trust Tasca's warehouse for accuracy. I bet the number is correct, but like the drawers and bins at the Home Depot, they have some things mixed up. For example, I've received alternator bolts when ordering shock bolts. Similar, but different, if you catch my drift. Of course, Volvo didn't label those parts in individual sealed packages.

Perhaps you should try your local dealer parts as Smokeyfan did; or negotiate a check of stock with Tasca, on the phone.

        (2) Yes, I knew that. I suggested 30R7 but if you want to pay for 30R9 for some reason, it will work.

        (3) Yes, that is what was recommended.

Normal Fuel hose (30R7) is OK from tank to main pump... 200

...the tank pump output is not a high pressure requiring 30R9 hose.

Last I knew, the return line TO the tank was made of black plastic tubing with a loose-fitting rubber cover for protection. But that was on older 240s. Your '91 may be different.

the hose from the outside of the unit to the external pump is called fuel injection hose and is easy to get at the auto parts store. however be careful with the small hose that goes inside the tank and connects the intank fuel pump to the metal tube out of the tank on the sending unit assembly. this hose is a special type that resists deterioration from fuel. remember that hose is submerged in tank fuel. gates makes the hose(called submersible fuel hose and it is available from napa. you only need a short piece. it is expensive. forget the number something like 30R9. dont use regular fuel injection hose or fuel emission hose. it will deteriorate to mush in a year. see if someone on the forum has a piece of it left over. good luck oldduke.
