need to know about v90 S90-V90

I have a 1997 965 (badged V/90 for the 1998 model), and a 1998 S/90 that's the wifemobile. From our previous 240's they were a leap into the lap of luxury. Smooth, quiet, filled with fancy things.

960 Brickster covered the bases well. If you have the maintenance history that could save you a buck or two. The belts are much more critical than on a 240. The B230F NA engine is a non-interference design, break a timing belt and the car stops - easy replacement. On the B6304 engine in the 960/V/S/90 cars, break a timing belt, and the engine damage repair cost can total the car.

Serpentine belt failure can lead to timing belt failure, so changing that one is just as important. Tensioners the same. The water pump is driven by the timing belt and is inside the belt cover. Labor is not much less than a timing belt job, so give the pump a hard look when doing the T-belt job.

I do hope you can get an Owner's Manual and at least one remote fob. The manual describes how to program the fob, and much more. New fobs (2 ears ago) were around $150 each from a Volvo dealer.

Oh, my 965 is at 208000 miles, the S/90 has 156,000. They are keepers, and the last of the RWD Volvos.

Enjoy,

Bob
