AC leak. replace pipe or O ring? 700

I took my retrofitted 89 turbo in for a recharge and they told me the condensor inlet pipe was leaking where it connects to the condensor. They said the pipe HAD to be replaced. They could not replace it beacause Volvo discontinued it. But I can get an aftermarket from FCPgroton.

I was wondering if it was more likely just an O ring in need of replacement. Do pipes go bad at the connection point and need replacing?

This pipe seems to take a real beating from the elements. They all seem to leak or fail. I'd replace.

Thought mine was oring at compressor high side. Oring was destroyed, but after replacing, turned out the pipe had a crack at that point. FCP, reasonable. $50.

I recently changed mine and opted for the $7 pick yard hose, found an almost brand new one. something to think about if you have some pick yards close by.

In my case, the pipe had corroded around the o-ring and could not be repaired. I was able to source an OEM pipe at reasonable cost and all was well. I suggest going for the pipe and not just the ring since the labor to install is the same and the cost of doing it again, including the re-charge, is sufficient to try to avoid it.

      Steve,

Thanks for the info. I confirmed from Tasca that it is no longer available from them. Looks like I'm stuck with whomever Scantech is sourcing it from. Hopefully they can't manage to screw up a pipe.
