I just finished installing a new exhaust flange gasket on my daughter's 940. What should have been a simple job turned out to be a bitch!
Heating the nuts with a torch and soaking with PBlaster helped, but wasn't enough. Got out my trusty impact wrench and rounded off the points of the nut. Tried to cut it with a Dremel but couldn't get a good angle. When a local muffler shop quoted $125-200 to do the job I rethought my options....slashing my wrists was one of them!
After a few beers and some google searches, I decided to buy an Irwin Bolt Grip set. It's a God-send. Can't believe I didn't have one already. It's truly a must have set of sockets for anyone's tool set.
I also used the trick of heating the nut and bleeding beeswax into the threads. Works great. After an hour, I heated the nut again, tapped on the 13mm bolt grip and voila! The bolts came off like a dream. One of them was totally destroyed but I was still able to get it off. Now the car
is quiet and I've got $125 to spend on beer. Life is good.
