940 Parts in the North East 900

Hey guys,

I was looking for a couple of parts for my 940. I was looking for a black hood in good condition. Mine is peeling paint and I can't find someone to paint it cheap. I think I can get a recycled one cheaper. I was also looking for a replacement driver/pass seat. The leather is almost gone on mine and the fabric is showing.

I was wondering if anyone in the North East part of the US has seen a parts car that might have these parts. I have called all of the recyclers I found nearby on google, but I have had no luck. I am trying to ready the car for my son who will be getting a drivers permit soon.

Thanks for any help!

when I lived near Boston I went to two yards that are not mainstream, in Salem MA. They usually had some Volvos. I got good prices always. Naumkeag Auto Salvage and Ferris Auto. Google will find them, Naumkeag has a site to search also but is not complete.

I have a black metallic 940 turbo for parts. Has nice black leather seats. Hood is wrinkled though. Have ad on Craigslist Boston, it may have expired so I will get it back up soon.

    Dear Huskerdoo,

Hope you're well. Hoods are costly to ship, as their size - and fragility - means they have to be packed carefully and shipped by truck. Thus, prowling salvage yards is the most cost-effective way to find one.

Driver's seats can be shipped by common carrier, if the headrest is removed and placed on the seat. However, there's no need for this, unless the motors on your seat definitely have failed. That's rare. If the motors are in good shape, try to find replacement seat upholstery, and replace the worn-out leather.

While I've not replaced failed leather, those who have done this job, report that it is relatively straightforward. It costs way less to ship the skins, than it does to ship an entire seat.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

      Thanks Spook,

I agree. I was hoping by posting something that someone in the Northeast part of the country might have noticed a black 940/960 at their boneyard that could supply me with a hood or seat. I am willing to drive to get the parts because it would be cheaper than shipping.
