brake calier 120-130 1967

There sure seem to be a lot of messages about brakes lately, so ill join the trend.

Can anyone point me to where I can buy a caliper for my 1967 122S wagon (222S)?

I have searched the web, and perused previous messages. I may have missed something obvious, but don't think so.

My symptom is a failure to release on the front left brake. I pulled the pads last Sunday, and found the small pistons (outer) took a fair amount of effort to press in using a visegrip. I lubricated them with brake fluid and worked them in and out 6 times, then coated them with brake lube and worked them some more. Did I say the outer seals were split? Of course they are. That is the case for every car I have, and I have become accustomed to it.

The current condition is that they release after a minute or so, better, but it is time for fresh calipers. The old pistons have a 'bit" of discoloration/rust on their outer bearing surface, so I really need calipers "loaded" with the pistons and seals.

The normal sources I have found do not sell these.

Thanks in advance,

Larry - Pasadena

Try pressing the piston in with the bleeder valve slightly open.
If it is MUCH easier or you spray a bunch of fluid, your brake line is stopped up
and should be replaced because it acts like a check valve.
This is a VERY common ailment on 140/164 because of their small brake lines but
can also happen on 122/220.
If the caliper is indeed bad, get up with the "usual suspects", Mike Dudek in Gilroy,
Eric Hamlet in Torrance, Rusty Cohn (RPR) in Albany, California, Volvuparts in Atlanta, IPD, etc etc ad nauseam

Red92s, FredVolvo67, Walrus3,

Thank you thank you, thank you! I now have several sources which advertise exactly what I need. Expensive, but just what is needed. I was coming back to the same rockauto site which did not have calipers for a 67 in my own searches.

Walrus3, no, it is not the hose because the third caliper, the larger inner one, moves freely in. If there were a hydraulic restriction, that piston would have shown the greatest resistance. Pretty sure it is corrosion on my two small outer pistons. Besides, I have the cool metal braid hoses from IPD.

By the way, I have had 122S Volvos continuously since the 1960s, and this is the first caliper rebuild, so I count myself lucky.

That is about right...
IPD hoses are good.
