Have you tried starting it by holding key in the start position and moving the shifter (perhaps a bad neutral safety switch)

Have you tried a couple of sharp raps with a hammer on the starter? (starter going south)

How about a wire from battery positive to solenoid? (defective ignition switch/neutral safety switch)

Sorry I do not know about the existence of a service socket on the 7/9 cars.
