Rough running 1990 244 200

I've got a 1990 244 that runs real rough. It is only driveable when the AMM is unplugged. I've tried three different AMM and have the same results. It wants to die at idle, so I removed and cleaned the intake (it was pretty crapped up)and also cleaned the IAC valve. I tested the IAC by giving it 12v's, it works. I then tested the plug with my DVM. I read 11.88v with no pedal, it read the same with the pedal pressed. It's my understanding that when the pedal is pressed that the 12v should stop. Right? I'm kinda stumped, I think I've got two seperate problems. What are my next steps?

Sounds nearly identical to the failure our 90 244 suffered when the pink label ECU (561 I think) bit the big one. I replaced the ECU with another and the problem went away for good.

Hi,

Have you checked/cleaned the connector that plugs into the AMM? Sometimes the pins can get bent and/or sludged up and not make a good connection to the AMM.

Do you have any codes?

Only a visual inspection on the plug. Nothing out of sorts.

As far as pulling codes, I don't know how to do that.

Hi,

For code checking of LH2.4 fuel injection and EZK 116 Ignition:

http://www.brickboard.com:80/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm

You might want to check both ignition and fuel codes, keep in mind you won't get definitive answers but a lot of times the codes will put you on the right track.

For IAC valve and AMM troubleshooting:

http://www.brickboard.com:80/FAQ/700-900/EngineFuelinjection.htm#IdleAirControlValve

Good luck and report back with your findings. And don't freeze up out there!

I followed the procedure for pulling the codes. And nothing, not even a flicker. What does this mean?

Was the ignition key on at position II? If it was what are the last 3 digits on the ECU and what is the color of the label?

I must have missed the position II step, just redid it and got a 1 1 1 code. So it apparently didn't find and faults. The ECU last three is 561 with a pink label.

That ECU is known to fail, usually it results in a no start. Do you have a spare you could swap in to test?

I'll have to check my spares. I did part out a 93 wagon last year. would that be compatible? I can't remember if I pulled it though.

It should if it is either a 951 or 561.

Hello,

What is the compression on the cylinders? You could be dealing with engine failure.

Not sure on the compression, I don't have a tester. I may be able to borrow one from a friend though.
