Where to get distributor parts? 200 1982

I have an 82 244 with the B21 k-jet and the chrysler white cap ignition. My question is: where can I get the flat round piece that goes underneath the rotor? The one on there now has it's little foil piece halfway broken. I folded up some aluminum foil as a quik fix but i need to replace it. what does it do anyhow?! I checked ipd, fcp, eeuroparts, and vlvworld to no avail.

Maybe 200 1982

Here's the situation. I have a carbed car that came with points. Heard that it could be upgraded to electronic ignition for smoother running. So I did. Later I was told that I could have pulled the electronic ignition from and old 240 and used it instead.

Which appears to mean that electronic ignitions are interchangeable.

Replacing the 240 ign with the identical appears pricey. So I suggest checking out Pertronix or Hot-Spark to see if they could work.

Dust Cap? 200 1982

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, it's a dust shield. Is it metal and about a half inch across, hugging the side of the distributor, or is it round and slightly dome-shaped and made out of paper?

If it's the second one, it's just a dust cap. I'd replace it with one from a junkyard or dealer. Maybe someone knows where to find one?

I also have a 1982 B21F K-Jet with Chrysler White Cap ignition. The "flat round piece" you're referring to is known as the Hall-sender or Hall-Sensor or Impulse-Sensor. The Hall-Sender is an electrical/electronic device which senses voltage changes as the metal rotor-blades pass through its magnetic field. It sends a signal to the ICU to tell it that the engine is spinning, to fire the coil, and set ignition timing. More information is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_effect

The part you're looking for is a a fairly long-lived item, and therefore, not in great demand. They usually last a long time. New ones are available, though, but you're going to pay big for it. I recently purchased a new Hall-Sender/Hall-Sensor/Impulse Sensor to store up just in case I need it for some reason. Since I intend to keep my Volvo as is - with the Chrysler/Volvo Ignition system, this was only prudent. I got mine at:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Volvo/245/OES_Genuine/Impulse_Sensor/1982/GL/4_Cyl_2-dot-1L/W0133-1599850.html?tlc=Engine+%26+Drivetrain

If you paste in the link, it'll take you right to it. It'll cost you $241.00. Shipping is "free". The original Volvo part# is 1332207. The Impulse-Sensor I received was a NOS OEM Volvo part. It didn't have the pin sheaths on the pins, though, and so I'll need to order more of them direct from a Volvo parts dealer.

I am curious about how you jury-rigged your Hall-Sender/Impulse-Sensor with aluminum foil. Sounds interesting. perhaps you can write up a small "how to" on it so the rest of us can make a note of it -- Just in case.

Good luck

I'd get rid of that POS asap. Figure out what bosch distributor would work. For $200 you could have a nice new bosch distributor. The little foil is the ground and without it you'll have no start issues. The wire and plug coming off the distributor developed a short on my 83. I was lucky enough to find a hall sensor in a Junk Yard that looked new for only $10. But even then I damaged that little foil pretty quickly. When I found a bosch that worked I swapped it out. I had to splice in a different plug from the ICU wiring harness.
