Lose shift lever 200 1993

1993 volvo 240 with automatic tranny has a lose shift lever. Lots of play in it.
Is there a way to tighten it?

I had a similiar problem last week. It is now fixed. Look at this link:

If the shifter is sloppy side to side most likely the three bolts that hold the base of the shifter are loose and need tightened. These can be accessed from beneath the car just above the transmission.

If the shifter is sloppy front to back, there are two hard rubber bushings in the linkage that have given up/fallen out. This linkage assembly is on the driver side of the transmission.

    Hope that helps!
