Intermittent Start Problem 200 1992

Have not had much experience with no start problems so I thought I would put this up...

Our 92 245 has lately been having no start problems. For a while it would not even try to turn over. You would turn the key and nothing, no sound whatsoever.

Just recently things have changed a bit in that you will turn the key and hear the starter click twice but nothing.

After you try and start it a second time sometimes it will start right up without any problems.

Sometimes it will take a couple tries but it ALWAYS eventually starts within a couple tries. Never leaving me sit for more than a minute or so.

Just a thought, try moving the shifter, to make sure the car is in the park position electrically. A worn shifter bushing (the little nylon ones on either end of the shift rod between the shifter and the transmission) will give you similiar symptoms.

Assuming you have a good fully charged battery it may be the starter solenoid not working.
Get a piece of wood about 2x2x20 inches, the next time it won't start wack the solenoid if the starter works you have found the problem.

    Hello,

You should check the connections to the starter solenoid. The ignition switch is a known problem with these models. I wired mine up to the cruise control. Now, when I wish to start, I press the set speed button.

It could also be the starter itself, but check the connections first.
