Brand preference for upper strut mount kit. Uro/ada/skf/volvo? 900 1994

Hello I am getting ready to replace the upper strut mount and inserts on my 94 940 n/a wagon with 180,000 miles. At Ipd they sell the Uro kit for 36 bucks but there were 2 product reviews that said they had failed not long after replacement with some clunks. Fcp sells the same ones. Any suggestion on this or other brand and where to get them. p.s. I am not a hard driver. Thanks. pj

Dear poonjab,

Hope you're well. In general, when a part is hard to get at, or where failure sidelines the car, use top-notch parts. Volvo parts qualify. For radiators, Nissens products, meet this test. Continental timing belts seem to be first-rate.

Where a part is easy to access and/or where failure isn't catastrophic (e.g., a transmission mount or the plastic under-engine protective cover), one can economize.

When it comes to strut mounts, I'd go with the Volvo brand item. Replacing a failed strut mount is a lot of hard work.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Hello Spook;

I am learning quite a bit on how to work on these cars thanks to folks like you. Just flushed the brake lines today and used super blue racing formula. Only a couple of bucks more. On Thursday I will be attempting to replace my Wife's heated seat switch on her 91 SE. I have already swapped out the relay with one that works and no heat so hope it is the switch. Any Idea how far I need to dig into it before I get to the connection? TX

Best Regards
PJ

I would use Volvo only. I was stung once by using Scantech parts that failed in 18k miles. (that was on a 240)
My 97 965 upper mount is a solid steel plate with a conical rubber washer. It is the conical rubber washer that wears, and usually don't need to replace the upper mount unless the bearing is shot, but then the bearing is available separately, too. Your 945 should be the same. The washers are $8 from Tasca Volvo online.

My euro mount failed and the shock punched a hole through my alloy hood.
