Windscreen wiper/washer switch 1800

Does the 1800 wash wipe switch twist to switch on the washers? Amazon wash is a momentary switch at full extension of the pull knob. Wash therefore only works when wipers have already wiped a dry windscreen several times. I don't like this and want some way of independently washing and wiping.

I saw an 1800 switch on ebay a while ago and it looked like it had an arrow to indicate turning the switch to work the washers. If someone can confirm that would be great. If this is the case - I'd be interested in buying one if someone has a spare.

I decided to take a punt and buy one of the twist type switches listed on Ebay. I'm looking forward to being able to wash before wipe. I have just re-conditioned the orignal washer pump. It was seized up and I had to replace the shaft seal because it would only work after it was primed. The old seal would leak water out and also allow air to be sucked in. I managed to find a generic industrial shaft seal that fitted perfectly.

I received the twist to wash type switch and fitted it tonight. It is a bit longer than the original three stage pull switch on my amazon. It took a while to work out the connections on it but between studying the circuit diagrams and checking with a multimeter I managed to get it right first time. The only other fiddle was that the threaded part that goes through the dash didn't have flats on it. I filed flats on it to match the original one and fit the hole in the dash.

Great being able to use the wash now without having to wipe first.

My 68 1800S has a pull type switch & my 72 1800ES has a twist type switch. I suspect that they went with the twist type switch with the newer fake wood grain dash.

If I'm not mistaken, the 1800 series flip-flopped a couple of times WRT operation of the washers. I believe you'll find both types of switches were used at various times. But there were definitely some with a twist switch - on these cars, you could definitely squirt water independent of the wipers.
