Brushes? 200

Hello all,

This morning I started up my 1990 DL 245 and all the warning lights came on and the door chime continued to chime after the engine was running. I thought sure I had a ignition switch going bad, and I jiggled the key but no relief, Turned the car off by accident while fooling with the key. What resolved the lights and chime was revving the engine slightly.

Could this be a warning from the brushes to change them. The car has 152,000 miles and the original alternator.

I think you can get weird electrical problems if the battery is low. Your battery may not be holding its charge. Did the engine turn slowly on start-up?

Your brushes probably do need attention. Even if the freakish chiming had nothing to do with them, you have that guilt of neglect to nag you into checking them before they leave you stranded.

Fred, I've had the same thing happen to me and then touched (rolled) one of the fuses -- I think the brake light fuse #7 -- to make it quit. This on a car with cruise, of course.

Be thankful for problems. If they were less difficult, someone with less ability might have your job.
