1990 240 Rear Cam Seal 200

Does anyone know where I can actually find the steps on how to replace this?

I've found a lot of discussions, but not what I need.

My Bently manual describes how to replace the front only. WTF? I need to know how to replace the REAR.

Thank you!

It's pretty straightforward, actually. Remove the valve cover, remove the bearing cap on the end of the cam to make access easier. Push the seal out, install a new one and replace the bearing cap. I would recommend using IPD's cam seal retainer plate to hold the new seal in place and keep it from possibly popping out. It's cheap insurance.

If the old one is still in the hole, take a punch and a hammer and get the punch to penetrate the plug, then pry it out. Then wipe down the hole the plug came out of with a rag and a bit of alcohol (oil removal). Finally, smear the plug opening with Hylomar sealant and push the new plug in.

If you want to ensure that the new plug stays in, either make a retainer plate or buy one from IPD and install it. Of course, cleaning the flame trap would also be a great idea in order to prevent a repeat.

If you can't pick out the old plug, the only option is to remove the valve cover and rear cam bracket, then the plug will fall out.
