IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

I just installed IPD's overdrive bypass plate. The installation was slick, expecially with a flexible GearWrench. The question I have is this: My wife was driving the car today and noticed it wasn't shifting into 4th even at 70mph. I did notice when I went for a test drive that it didn't seem to be shifting into 4th at normal speed. Has anybody else experienced this? Also, at what speed does the transmission usually shift to 4th? Thanks.

IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

Thanks for the overdrive bypass installation tips. I did miss the second dime-sized gasket and removed it this morning. Works great! Thanks again.

IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

Follow up question: When the car shifts into 4th gear under normal circumstances, is fluid flowing through the OD solenoid or is it cut off? Just wondering how it works. I would think it would need to continue flowing and IPD bypass plate just ensures continual flow.

IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

between 45 and 50, usually right at 47.

Did you remove BOTH old gaskets before installing the bypass plate? There's a little gasket (smaller than a dime) and a larger gasket (b/w a nickel and a quarter) that have to come off. The bypass plate only uses the larger of the two little gaskets, and it comes with it already attached.

IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

Thanks for the tips. I didn't see the smaller seal, so I'm going to have to go back in...I cleaned the area very well, but some grit may have gotten in the bypass channel. Any good cleaning tips to get that stuff out of there if something is indeed blocking the channel?

IPD Overdrive Bypass Question 700 1989

Mine (240 & 940) shift to OD around 37 mph...47 seems a bit high...
maybe it got some dirt in the bypass channel- it's a small gap to begin with.
