Extreme brake squeal in the front, and now a groan in the back. 200 1993

Hi all, I have extreme sqealing in my brakes lately. I've changed the pads and the sliders, with little to no change. The next step is turning the rotors, which I probably should have gotten done when I replaced the pads. Do the bearing races need to come out to have the rotors turned? I replaced the back pads a few months ago and noticed that the passenger's side inner pad was worn differenly than the outter. I can't remember right now which was worn more. I replaced that caliper shortly after. Now this week, I've started to hear a groan from one or both of the rear brakes. It's getting to the point that I really don't like driving the car cause it sounds so bad. The groan seems to come more when I'm first braking, when there's slight drag on the pads, rather than braking hard. I've checked the Bentley manual and noticed that the piston should be at a certain angle using a special tool. I've read here that this is probably to reduce the "sounding like a bus" issue. I don't have that tool, is there something I can substitute for it? I was going to sit in the back of the wagon and have the wife drive around to see if I can pin it down to one wheel or the other. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

    Hello,

What kind of pads are you using? Maxi, Kotex?

If the pads are super rock hard ultra metal with chunks of glass lifetime warranty then understand that the factory used softer pads to eliminate noise.

Yes, the rotors could be machined, but by the time you hassle around at Joe´s Jolly Jack and Jip you could order new ones.

I'm using the "Genuine Volvo" pads from FCP Groton.

I agree, I could just order new rotors, but the rotors I have appear to be in pretty good shape. I prefer to refurbish when available and replace when necessary. At 40 bucks apiece compared to 12 bucks apiece, I could get the rotors turned, throw 60 bucks out the window and be about in the same boat as buying brand new rotors. I don't know about you, but I like to keep my money.

        Hello,

Having your rotors turned is not the same as brand new ones.

What is the play of the wheel bearings? Lateral dislocation will induce resonance along the plane of pad contact.

Damaged wheel bearings could also emit noise when loaded with the force of braking.
