Oil Pressure Sender Adapter 200

Does anyone know off-hand what size etc. the adapter is to fit the larger two-wire oil pressure sender used with the GT/R-Sport gauge cluster ? My car is a 1980 242 with the B21F engine. Thanks.

Mike

1/4 NPT male to 1/8 NPT female. You can get them from egauges.com, a decent plumbing store, or an auto part store.

      hello
i believe to add the sender to the b21 motor you need the 45 degree fitting that came originally on the 240 turbo. you dont need it on the b230.
i also believe the sender is 1/8" and the block is metric and M14.
going by memory as i lost the box with the size when i added the bushing/sender to my car.
      good luck
      Mike

Mike this sure is confusing. I read he had an 80 b21. The oil sender port is 1/8" NPT and the sender itself, that belongs on it, and would mate with the older R-sport gauge, is 1/8" NPT. The only adapter one would need is the brass 45 street elbow you mentioned.

So the rub that must make this not so obvious, is the sender is not what I think it is?

          Hi Art.
          then i stand corrected.
i didnt know the changed like that.
i have the street 45 in my box of tricks and it has the bushing on it but couldnt find a size marking.
          thanks for the info
          good luck
          Mike

Certainly I am not about correcting.

But, I don't know if the old R-sport gauge package he has came with the same sender as a Volvo uses, or something to work with a B230 which is when the block started using the M14 hole. Before the B230 it was 1/8" NPT at the block. That's why it is confusing. If both were 1/8" NPT why would he ask about an adapter?

Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

              Hi Guys

Thanks for clearing up my confusion and sorry if I inadvertently caused some further confusion. Yes, I have a b-21 in a 1980 242. Right now it has only the regular oil pressure sender. The larger sender I have that is used with the R-sport gauge cluster will not clear the larger (100 AMP) alternator I have in the car. And yes, the larger sender is the regular Volvo part used on the Turbos and maybe others where a pressure gauge was used instead of just the warning light. Therefore, I need to slightly relocate the new sender. So, what I needed to know was the thread size into the block so I can work with a 45-degree street elbow and anything else that might be necessary. You guys have answered my question, and thanks so much for this.

              Mike

      Thanks, Paul,

I assume since these are pipe threads, you can/should use some teflon tape to seal the threads ?

The sender may need to be grounded through the body to the engine block, as with the normal single wire sender, so teflon tape may interfere with the connection.

This is information that I found online:

          "Part VDO # Volvo #

          - Sensor for 00-10 GT instruments 1973-1980 360.081/29/12 283591
          - alt. sensor 0-10 bar för GT instr. 73-80 360.081/29/42 ?

The thread for the oil pressure gauge B29-B23 is 1/8-27NPTF.
The thread for the oil pressure gauge B230 is M14x1.5"

So it appears there were two sensors for the 10 bar GT cluster. Maybe with the VDO part numbers you could verify the specs?

          Hope this is useful info.
