240/740 Wheel Interchangeability ?? 200 1987

As my 1988 740GL wagon is dead I was thinking of taking wheels/tires from it and putting them on 1987 240DL sedan. 740 tires are in good shape whereas 240 tires are in poor shape so hence my wanting to do this. 240 tires are 195/70R14 and its wheels are(reading clockwise): 5.5Jx14x20 Volvo 1359670 7116191 Germany 1426 740 tires are 185/70R14 and its wheels are(reading clockwise) : 5.5Jx14x25K4 Germany 6040 1387159 Volvo Is this doable and will it be okay to do so ?? Thanks. P.S. - Am posting this in both 700 and 200 areas

Yes, the wheels will go right on, as pageda said.

Your 740 tires (185/70R-14) will have a smaller outer diameter than your current tires. And, they have an even smaller outer diam than the original spec size (185/R-14, which is nearly impossible to find). Smaller than stock by 5.17%, according to this somewhat inconvenient calculator:

    http://ejelta.com/tiresize/index.html?ws15=1&tiresize=195%2F75%2F14&minwidth=&maxwidth=&minratio=&maxratio=&minwheel=&maxwheel=&maxdelta=10

So if speedometer says 68-89 you're actually going about 65. And for any given road speed, you engine will be revving 5% faster so you'll have a bit more pep and consume a bit more fuel.

My preferred 14" tire size for the 240 wagon is 195/75-14. Its outer diam is probably the closest available match to the hard-to-find oem size and has a good load rating too (smaller diameter = less load rating).

I believe John Sargeant gave me this link as a guide at one time. You might want to bookmark this page, as I have. Hope it helps in some way.
