Hello BBer's
The end all to my wiper motor gremlins from a few years back was a rebuilt one from Advanced Auto Parts. Well it was four of them before I actually got one that worked correctly. Last weekend during the drought ending monsoon we had down here the wipers suddenly making a louder noise and then started stopping in at the top, then the middle, and so on.
Not a problem, lifetime warranty, lets go get a replacement. The store where purchased the motor from "moved" to a new location (they closed it). Apparently and I quote, "some older files did not transfer correctly". They knew all about my battery, but squat about the motor. Then I got that blank look from the counter person when I asked what about my replacement motor. Here it came, "Do you have the receipt?". Counted to 10, and hit them with you mean same receipt where you just told the guy who purchased a compressor not to worry about it, it's in the computer? Finally after 15 min of arguing my case heard the following line, "Well that is an old motor". Who do I need to speak to get this resolved? The manager finally reluctantly ordered a new motor and demanded the core. Now we had a new stand off. You get the core when I get the motor, it is flooding out there (and it was actually flooding out there). He finally relented and did agree that the core could be exchanged when the motor was picked up. New motor is not installed and while the high speed seems a bit slow does stop at the bottom now and at least there are two speeds and intermittent.
Bottom line, won't ever belove the "it's in the computer line" on warranty parts. Did actually find the receipt last night in the Volvo folder, but it is now so faded that you really can't tell what was purchased or when. From now on I will be scanning all those warranty receipts and saving as PDF's with a backup copy on some sort of media.
Just a thought to save others the same PITA.
Regards,
Paul
