Tiny gap between crankshaft and front oil seal 200 1988

So we're doing our first front oil seal job on my friends volvo. After pressing the crankshaft oilseal in I could see a tiny gap of barely a 1 mm between the lip and shaft. I've been reading in the FAQ about how the lip can role out but what does that look like? The seal look symetrical and tight all the way around exept for at 7 o'clock where that little gap is, is that still ok?

Thanks!

As I try to picture it...It almost sounds like you rolled the whole seal outward except that 7:00 position where the seal is sitting correctly and has a natural taper in.If that's the case, you likely popped the Spring off the back of the seal.
When you start to put the Seal onto teh Crank, oil the crank then angle the seal slightly so you start a small section then work it on until it is all on the Crank, then proceed to press it into the Housing.
You may want to put greas on the inside of the seal to hold te Spring in the seal.

I hope I'm understanding the situation as you meant us to visualize it -- and if so, then it's definitely NOT all right.

It sounds like you did roll the lip of the seal. In fact, considering all the work involved, I wouldn't even try to salvage that seal (there could be any amount of distortion to the seal edge, and even to the spring behind the lip of the seal), but would just yank it out and try again to insert a new seal.

Do it right, or you'll wind up doing it again real soon (not to mention that the leaking oil is not good for your new timing belt which I am assuming you're also installing).

Good luck.
