Tiny gap between crankshaft and front oil seal 200 1988

As I try to picture it...It almost sounds like you rolled the whole seal outward except that 7:00 position where the seal is sitting correctly and has a natural taper in.If that's the case, you likely popped the Spring off the back of the seal.
When you start to put the Seal onto teh Crank, oil the crank then angle the seal slightly so you start a small section then work it on until it is all on the Crank, then proceed to press it into the Housing.
You may want to put greas on the inside of the seal to hold te Spring in the seal.
