HELP!!! Stalling/ no start '93 945t 900

Several times today I've had my car just quit, it has restarted each time but usually only after some fiddling around, first try on restart is usually a no-go.
Got it home and checked codes and got 1-4-4 on the ignition, copy/paste from the 700/900 FAQ: 1-4-4* No load signal from fuel injection system Bad fuel injection relay; faulty wiring from LH to EZK; bad LH module Engine lacks power; stalls; doesn't start or is jerky

No other codes. Just replaced the power stage last week after a similar incident and all was well for several days. After the first incident where it quit going down the interstate and wouldn't re-start (tach wasnt showing anything while cranking) I popped in the spare fuel relay I carry in the car, no change. I swapped in my old RPM sensor that was replaced just because the sheath around the 2 wires was splitting, it still worked fine....still no change. Got a new power stage and life was good again, car ran perfect.

Anyone have experience with code 1-4-4?
Could my spare fuel pump relay thats still in there be causing this?
Could it be time for a new EZK box?
Anyone have a working 937 box for cheap?

HELP!!! Stalling/ no start '93 945t 900

I have recently experienced the same symptoms. I replaced the flywheel position sensor (the symptoms are indicative of this components` failure) and all is well again. Something else for you to consider.

Your symptoms sound very familiar, right down to the tach symptom. After quite a bit of electrical parts swapping I determined it was the fuel pumps. The car had over 250k mi on it and the brushes & commutator had worn to the point the in-tank pump would only make contact when cool (the main pump was dead). A full tank kept it cool enough to run but when the fuel level dropped below the pump, it would die. Once it cooled off, it would run for awhile, then die again. Check your fuel flow next time it dies.

HELP!!! Stalling/ no start '93 945t 900

Problem solved: it was the fuel pump relay.
I originally had changed it a few years ago when the engine was cutting out for a couple seconds at a time. I guess at the time when I got the new one I decided to throw the old kinda working one in the glove box as a spare.
Now have the good one back in and a known to good spare in the glovebox.

glad I read your post... fuel pump relay replacement solved the issue...had a spare same as you..
have owned Volvos for many years but you sometimes forget about these issues.

I would not forget about most common cause of stalls and crank but no starts. I had two fail in one car. (I also had two fuel pump failures in two cars.)

Don't leave home without a new, spare, white pre-resoldered FP relay if that is what you have. The blue or green? FP relays have all stamped or crimped connections and seem to be more reliable.

One thing you may want to check is the fuel pump(s). An original pump won't last much more than 200-250k mi. I had similar symptoms last December (right down to bogus codes being thrown) that I eventually isolated to the fuel pumps, that fixed my problem.

Hi,

It says you may have a bad fuel injection relay, not a bad fuel pump relay.
