Turn signal switch problem 200 1986

The turn signal and high/low beam switch has been giving me a fit recently. Whenever I go to switch between high & low beams, I have to hit a sweet spot in order to get it to do its job. I've replaced the relay on the front left fender, but no luck there. The switch has the cruise control function on the stalk. I know of one at the boneyard, but don't know if it is with cruise. If it happens to be a unit without cruise, would it still function in place of mine? I don't see why not, esp since my cruise is inoperative anyway.

Thanks.

Your suggestion to use the electrical cleaner worked like a dream. I now have perfect switching between high & low beam functions. Thanks again.

Glad it worked out for you!

BTW - Those combo turn signal/cruise control stalks are over $100 new from FCP Groton. That really motivated me to fix what I had or find a used one!!

I fixed a similar problem on my 90. I thought I was going to have to replace my turn signal/cruise stalk too.

This is what I did. Remove steering column top cover. First check the screws that mount the stalk to the steering column for tightness. Then I used some electrical cleaner and sprayed thoroughly to clean the switch contacts. This may take a couple of tries but it eventually worked for me....:)

Thanks for the suggestion. My wife is on her way to Autozone to get some. I'll let you know how it works out.
