brake warning light on the '67 144s 140-160

It "seems" to be related to the switch that in on the handbrake. I have doodled with that and sprayed some contact cleaner and got it to go off, but it still flashes intermittently when driving.

Ideas?

    John;

    Brake warning light was indeed a grounding circuit, but it could be grounded by EITHER the switch at handbrake OR the switch which sensed a pressure differential between the two brake systems...locate problem by process of elimination...disco wire on one...if problem persists, disco the other also, if problem persists, wire in harness is connecting to chassis somewhere (unlikely but not impossible).

    I suggest lubing the one at handbrake first.

    Please let us know how you make out!

    Good Hunting!

    It's simply a grounding switch.

    Try tracing the wire. Perhaps it has chaffed somewhere and is grounding to the chassis.

    Also check the warning switch that is located under the hood. It is possible that that needs to be reset which is a matter of removing it and then reinstalling it.

    The warning light circuit is pretty basic.

      Hello,

      You probably need the piece of plastic that mounts on the underside of the parking brake handle.

      When this piece is broken or missing, the switch may not break contact reliably when the parking brake is off.

        Ah--that could be the problem--are these junkyard only or does anyone sell them?

          Hello,

          The part is still available new and costs less than $3.00.
