740 w/Regina has yellow fuel injectors? 700 1990

Newly acquired 1990 745 has Regina/Rex coil pack, air temp sensor instead of AMM, Regina style IAC and MAF sensor but the fuel rail is fitted with yellow-topped fuel injectors and the larger (cheaper) Bosch FPR instead of the blue-topped injectors and smaller (but very expensive) FPR. The usual parts sites (ipd, fcp groton, eeuroparts) all say the yellow injectors are Bosch system and blue are Regina. What gives -- did Volvo mix and match some model years? Or has the previous owner put in the wrong (but cheaper) injectors?

The car runs well but I haven't had it long enough to calculate gas mileage. OBD says "1-1-1, so no trouble codes.

I have access to a set of blue injectors and Regina FPR off my now-defunct 945 if I need to swap.

Get this:

Our '91 Regina 740 has both yellow *and* blue injectors. I couldn't believe it... until I looked closer. They both have the exact same part numbers molded into them. The plastic is just molded in different colors.

In short, the color is actually meaningless!... the p/n's are all that matter.

As for the pressure regulator, indeed the LH 2.4 flavor works fine with Regina.

Ryan,

Is the nozzle tip in these injectors a separate part? In the injectors that I have had apart, the nozzle was separate and could be replaced with a different size.

So, is it possible that the part number describes the injector body, and the yellow/blue indicates that different nozzles have been installed?

Charley

Well, Ryan_R gets the prize -- the blue injectors on my 93 945 and the yellow injectors on my 90 745 are all stamped with the same P/N -- "1389563".

So if you're looking for Regina injectors, ignore the color and check the numbers.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Sometimes I wonder if I'm mistaken.... now there's someone else to blame! :-)

Interesting. I'll check the part numbers on my yellow (on the 740 rail) and blue (on the 940 rail) injectors and report back.

Hmm...Never really thought about it before but my 91 740 regina has yellow top injectors too. No codes no problems.

i have never seen a regina 700 or 900 car with bosch injectors as stock.
as for the FPR i have mixed and matched between those for bosch and the smaller ones for regina and never had any trouble using the bosch ones on regina.

i suppose if it runs well you should do a write up for the board and for the rest of us who have no direct experience on this subject.

That's what I thought.

I'll run it with the yellow injectors for a while and get some mileage data, then swap in the blue ones and report back.
