Dear Donn,
May this find You well. For 940s made after 1991, the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) does show whether the Bendix (Rex/Regina) fuel/ignition management system is present and also whether or not EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is present.
The eighth position in the VIN deals with emissions. It is always a numeral. It means, if
0 = Basic Version (e.g., Bosch fuel/ignition management)
1 = with EGR
2 = not used
3 = alternationa fuel/ignition management, e.g., Bendix (Rex/Regina).
(Source: Volvo pocket data booklet: Cars - 700,850,900 -1996], p.4 /900].)
Apparently, EGR was not installed on cars with Bendix fuel/ignition management systems. As there are always exceptions to any Volvo Rule, I expect a reply that there is indeed a B230F engine, with Rex/Regina fuel/ignition management, that also has EGR!!
I RENEW MY QUESTIONS: Does anyone actually know if there are dimensional or other differences between a header pipe, to be installed on an engine with the Rex-Regina fuel/ignition management system, versus a header pipe to go on an engine, with the Rex/Regina fuel/ignition management system?
If so, what are those differences, e.g., are the openings for the oxygen sensor in different places, do the pipes have different lengths, shapes, etc.?
Thanks for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
