Not just any 123GT,,,, 120-130

Well gents...went and looked at that 123GT tonight. Here are the numbers I copied down...

Firewall Stamping...13395 250021

Tag...

133951M
91
426 553
5145 5324

So...if I decode the numbers right, this is a Canadian built 1967 123GT with limited slip differential. It is light green with a dark green interior. In searching through the 123GT register, I cannot find another with that exterior or interior color, let alone the same combination. Seems we might have a pretty unique car on our hands. I wish there was some way to get a history on this car. It has remnants of some big round number stickers on both doors.

And yes, we are buying it. The fact that it's really quite solid for a 43 year-old Alberta car helped make an already easy decision somewhat easier.

Experts...please weigh in.

According to the GT register that George Minassian (Aust) maintains there was a Canadian GT with same specs but with body No. 250024. Light green is quite rare for a GT. The other rare colour is metallic green blue that was produced for the Swiss market 1969/70. I notice the plate has screws wheras mine is rivited to the firewall which indicates the plate may have been removed at some point in time. A good indication whether it is a true GT is to check whether the full wiring loom accommodates the extra relays on the side of engine bay for fog/spot lights. Check also for indications of under bonnet mercury activated light. LSD is also a rare item which was mainly installed in the Canadian versions. Very informative link attached for your reference.

That is our car. I misread the number in the dim light of the seller's garage...

I'm well aware of the features that indicate it may be a true GT as I have another and have done many hours of research. We have 2 123GTs with no underhood or trunk lights or fog/driving lights as well as no extra wiring harness with relay and fuse box on the passenger side inner fender. These cannot be viewed as determining factors. What can be a determining factor is the number plate and we have clearly determined this is a GT.

        Very nice, lucky you.

Surprised it doesn't appear to have a column switch for the OD. Kind of tough to see in the photos though.

My VIN plate is also screwed on. I believe that is the only way they came from the factory. At one time, CT DMV was insisting that the plate be riveted. Some dopey inspectors would not pass any car that did not have the plate riveted regardless of how it came from the factory. Said that the factory could not sell a new car with the VIN tag screwed on, even in the 1960s! It was a struggle to convince DMV that it was not required by law.

The column o/d switch has been replaced by a big red pull-switch on the shifter. I suspect this was for ease of shifting in and out of o/d under racing conditions. The steering column shroud is still intact so one has to assume it was a choice rather than a necessity at the time.

          Many more pictures here...

More Rally than Racer by the look of the front bumper bar and wire light covers. By the panel beating on the inner wing it probably had a pair of side draughts on it at some time.
            Nice project!

Yes...it had a pair of DCOE carbs on it but apparently he couldn't get them running right so went back to the SUs. We're going to try and persuade that panel back to where it should be. We'll see how that goes...

Well, I'm no expert, but it looks to me like you've got a very unusual and collectible 123GT there. I'm envious, and looking forward to watching its resurrection in your copius amounts of free time and spare money!
