Your experiences with different tire sizes please 700 1991

It's about time to put some new meats on my beloved 91 745n/a. I'm pretty much set on the Cooper CS4 touring with the T speed rating. I just keep going round and round in my mind over what size to go with. Stock at 185 65 15, 195 65 15 or 205 60 15. I've studied the tire size calculators and I'm ok with both oversizes. I'm mainly concerned with ride comfort and safety. The handling has been fine on the stock size. Like many Volvo fanatics, I just can't leave good enough alone ya know. I know that a narrower tire is better for snow, but here in the Oklahoma City area, we just don't get enough of it to make it that big of an issue. All three of the above tires have the same ratings except that the two oversizes do have a slightly higher load rating. I've used the search function and got some good input. I'd sure appreciate your experiences and opinions on the best tire size.

Thanks much and take care,
Marc

On both 1991 740 & 940 turbo wagons I run 195/60/15 summer & 185/65/15 real winter tires. Never had any problems.

My personal favorite would probably come down to either of the oversize choices you've got there. I like the look of the slightly larger tires, but that's just me. I'm a Michelin or BFG kind of guy for a lot of my tire choices, but certainly personal preference and budget fit in to the equation somewhere as well.

I run Pirelli 205/55-16 on Hydra wheels on my turbo.

I picked up a full size spare that was 185/70/15 I think, which ended up being the right size. While driving with it, I got some squealing under what I considered normal cornering, though it was a little fast I think I must be used to the bigger footprint.

    Hope that helps.

You might also correlate fuel efficiency with wider tires. Wider tires = more traction = more friction = less efficiency

    Good Luck,
    Will

I have the same car you do. I have been using 195/65/15 for the last 80k and I am happy with them. Before that I was using 185/65/15. I don't like the look of 205/60/15, I think they look silly on a station wagon, but of course that's just a matter of opinion.

I run 215 60s x15 on one of my cars with no ride issues after 3 years, and 195 65s on the other two. It is kind of personal preference as far as looks go. My pick for rubber is Kumho and Kelly Springfield.

The 195 is probably nice for splitting the difference. I went with the 195's on 15" 240 wheels for pretty much the same reason.
