why do water pumps wait until winter to fail ?? 200 1989

forcast for the next 4 days is snow ! I pulled the old pump today, probably the original(volvo brand) cleaned up the head, replaced the belts. It was a good time to replace my alternator bushings and tensioner. just waiting for the pump to arrive. I bought an extra gasket kit just incase I rip the gasket or rip an o-ring.
They never seem to fail on me when it's warm out, that's usually when the AC craps out..

The cold weather tends to stiffen the O-rings, so the antifreeze has an escape route. Happened to me last week and I figured...might as well replace the pump too (only 40k miles on the last one). Had an Hepu water pump waiting in the wings. I just ordered another just in case.

Make sure you have 4 new studs for the cooling fan, otherwise you'll have to pull from the old pump.

This is one of the fun jobs. Happy New Year with an old Volvo!
