Return of the Overdrive issues (85-245) 200 1985

Ok, here's the latest and greatest..well, not greatest.

recap:

I had reverse and overdrive issues a few months ago, and figured (with help) it was the solenoid.

So I re-did the O-rings on it, and it worked fine. It wouldn't go into OD, but it was drivable. I didn't drive it though, because there was an oil leak I had been trying to muster up the energy to fix/locate. Also, I have access to a second one, so I don't HAVE to drive my volvo.

But today, I went to drive it and it did the same thing with reverse again. I'd back up and it'd be slipping/whirring, much like it did when my solenoid was needing to be fixed.

Forward was fine..reverse? not so much.

I haven't checked anything (I have to clear stuff before I put it in the garage), so I don't know what the issue is. It could be low on fluid..I don't know.

Before today when I did drive it (I probably have put 30 miles on it since I last 'fixed' it), it gave me no problems outside of not going into OD, which I already knew needed to be fixed/replaced.

Maybe the solenoid is crapped.

Any ideas what it could be, based on my limited description here?

    Is it an auto?
If yes the OD solonoid has nothing to do with reverse. It's sole purpose is to allow shifting into 4th gear (OD). This is possibly an electrical issue. What does the light do when you push the OD button?

Best before getting advice that you check the basics such as level, color, smell of fluid. Usual procedure with internal tranny problem is to try a flush.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it's a manual. The dash light has never worked (I don't remember if it's a bulb issue or something else).

When I last fixed the solenoid (replaced the o-rings), the fluid was ok. It only had about 1500 miles on it at the time.

My 85 244 made awful noises too at one time when I backed it up in reverse. It turned out that I was still in OD. Make sure you're not still in OD or moving the car in reverse will damage the OD. Mine is an M46.
    Good Luck.

I haven't put it in OD since I started driving it again (granted, as I said, for only 30 miles), but it is a possibility.
