New Volvo - Pics and Question on the fuel pump 200 1977

Here is a picture album of the new-to-me 242. I have a question - what is the story behind what appears to be a fuel pump on the outside of the drivers' side of the gas tank? (see the pictures of the car from the underside) I have only ever seen in-tank prepumps. Is this an external pump - is there not in-tank prepump on the 77?

Any comments welcome - take a look. You can also see some of the somewhat bulgy hoses under the hood.

New Volvo - Pics and Question on the fuel pump 200 1977

The pump shown next to the gas tank is THE fuel pump. Early 240's did not come with a prepump--I think the 260's had one earlier than the fours but may be incorrect on that. A prepump can be retrofitted. Keep the tank mostly filled to avoid problems--the main pumps push well but don't suck as well--hence the use of the push pumps-- Dave

Would ya know the part number, or where to find bolt-in replacement? I plan on keeping a spare handy in the trunk. I have to get to work, you know?
