First it lost power for half second on high speed. Then starting problem cold and hot occasionally. Then it did not idle above 1500 to 2500 rpm, occasionally. Now it won't start, the moment it starts, dies on it own with out any hesitations. Now don't start any more.

I just had to replace the head gasket on my 740, and I started having similar problems as coolant began leaking into #4 cylinder and fouling the plug. By the time the gasket finally totally blew, it wouldn't start anymore.

Yes,the same thing happened to my 92 740 nonT wagon.Same symptoms.I had to replace the head because it was warped. I don't understand why a head gasket causes these symptoms but it does.But before we go there- I think it sounds like a fuel pump gone bad. Test for that first . Somebody can tell you how to do that but first take the gas cap off and listen for the fuel pump to whine while someone turns the key on. If you don't hear it,then it could be that your fuel pump is bad. Hope that's what it is and not the dreaded head gasket.

RPM wires are ripped not by the harness but in between. I'm getting a multimeter to check the om. What should it be?
