what year did Volvo redesign engines on the 960? S90-V90

I have both a 1993 and a 1997 and the difference in the driving manners is notable. granted, the chassis is different, but the engine in the 1993 is one of the best lumps I have had the pleasure of sitting behind. the 1997 is quite nice, but not like the 93 in terms of "oomph"; the 93 may have it beat a little on overall driveability, too. the 97 does get better gas mileage.

so, was it 95 or 94 when Volvo redesigned the engines with different cams and different fuel injectors, etc?

what year did Volvo redesign engines on the 960? S90-V90 1998

I got a '98 V90 with 109,500 miles a couple months ago and I agree with you. Although everything on the V90 works as it should and it's very quiet, my brassy '93 960 wagon at almost 200,000 miles is by far more fun to drive.

The '95 model year had different cams but still OBD1 and Motronic 1.8. I believe MY '96 is when OBDII and Motronic 4.4 came to the scene. The '96 engine was the same as the '95 though.

I think it was '96 that those changes were made, coinciding with the OBii diagnostics.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong on this.
