A/C 700

The air conditioner in my 90 740gle stopped working. The fuses check out ok. I jumpered out the wires on the accumulator and it still doesn't work. If I jumper out the compressor it runs. Any suggestions where to look?
Bob

Well if you jumped it at the Acc and it didnt kick, that means the Green wire has no power, the green wire comes from the control. If your fuses are good then its going to have to be something with the Control unit itself. I would check for power at the control unit on the green wire and just keep following it back till you find where the power stops.

Basicly the Green wire is what kicks the compressor, the only real control for the A/C system under the hood is the compressor itself and the low pressure switch.

Can you provider more info on the issue as to what youve already done, i read it doesnt kick when defrost is on which it should, Does the front fan kick on when you put the A/C into the on position?

Hi volvosteel, By jumpering the wires at the accumulater would'nt it eliminate any wiring problems up to that point?

No only aft that point, the Low Pressure switch ( where you jump it ) is basicly a loop, so when you jump the Compressor with hot at that point you are simply sending 12 volts to the compressor, if it kicks the compressor and wire to it from where you jumped it is good, it means nothing more then that, its the other green wire there you have to check, the one going into the firewall needs to be checked when the A/C is in the on position for voltage, if not present youve found out why the compressor wont kick if voltage present then you probly have a faulty low pressure switch or your simply low on refridgerent. hopefully i didnt confuse you if i did let me know and ill try to simplify it more.

Hi Volvosteel, basicly I've done what I first posted along with the tips others have posted. The fan does not come on when the a/c is turned on. Do you mean tracing the green wire from the control panel in the dash?

        Bob
The front fan should come on in any instance of the buttons being pushed, its a hot on hot off kinda thing and the signal is recieved direct from the ACC/MCC.

Do you knwo if the front fan is good? that should probly be checked as it not being on could be an issue or just flat broken within itself.

Id recomend reading this in the FAQ
        http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/HeatingAirConditioning.htm#MCCClimateControlACNotWorking

It sounds like the issue at this point might be comming from the MCC control unit.
