putting a tilt steering wheel in a non-tilt car? 900 1993

940 base non-turbo wagon

My "new" 940 wagon does not have tilt steering.
Is it possible - or worth my time & trouble - to replace it with a tilt wheel?

Just a convenience, not a necessity, but I might try it if you folls think it is possible for the average home mechanic.

Thanks.

Dear GAcyclops,

May this find you well. I've not done this job. I venture to point out, that any work involving the steering wheel, involves the SRS (Airbag) system.

DEATH DANGER WARNING: Before trying to remove the steering wheel, remove the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal, and put the clamp in a plastic bag, to isolate it. This cuts power supply to the SRS (Airbag) System. If the airbag deploys when you're right next to it, you can be severely injured or killed. Even if you're not touched, it will also be costly. You'll have to replace the sensor, the airbag, and both pyrotechnic seat-belt pre-tensioners. The cost will be $3,000-4,000.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
