Bent driveshaft, how in the hell?

So I was under my brick today, troubleshooting an acceleration/deceleration vibration problem, and I now know the problem, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how it happened. I was going to disconnect the drive shaft and have a buddy tow me around the block to see if it was the drive shaft or the differential. I took the first bolt off the drive shaft at the differential, and went to turn it to get to get to the next one, and I noticed that the drive shaft was about 1/4" out of round. I looked closer and it appears that my carrier bearing is gone... I'm headed to the junkyard tomorrow to get a new drive shaft with carrier bearing and support, but am left scratching my head as to how the hell this could have happened. Any ideas?

The carrier bearing and support are nowhere to be found. I had them replaced ~10k ago, so I know they were in good condition. My only suspicion at this point is that the drive shaft has weakened and bent under torque, breaking the bearing and support from the car? I'm just plain stumped on how this could've happened.

Gone, as in, the rubber boot is there and there is no bearing around the shaft or sitting in the rubber?
I can see the bearing wearing out so bad that the balls fall out but you must have remains of the inner and outer shell, no?

So if by Carrier Bearing you mean what I call the Steady bearing in the middle of the drive shaft ..... old age wear and tear happened ..... simple as that
